The aim of the project is to prepare for publication a 15th century Russian literary source – a Cyrillic travelogue describing the journey to (and from) the Council of Florence (1439) and to analyse its long (full itinerary) version. The emphasis on the return way of metropolitan Isidore’s companions will enable us to study the reception of the Union of Florence among Slavs immediately after the council. It may reveal these events in a very different light compared to established seclusionist narrative that has been formed later - in the complicated process of anti-Latin polemics of a later date.
